Allegations of Cashew Nut Counterfeiting in India
A video showing the production of an Indian cookie in the shape of a cashew nut has been shared with the false claim that they are “counterfeit nuts”.
What the post says
The video is shared with the image of a man who claims “look at the level of counterfeiting that the Indians have reached. They are creating counterfeit cashew nuts“. He also states that consumers should be careful when buying cashew nuts in the market, and that they would be at risk of buying counterfeit food if it were imported.
Why it’s distorted
The video shows the production of a cookie in the shape of a cashew nut (called “kaju biscuit”). It is not, therefore, counterfeit cashew nuts. Below is a recipe:
