Seminário Contribuição da Matemática para a Economia

A Folha and the Itaú Foundation will host the seminar Contribution of Mathematics to the Economy on Tuesday (20), starting at 3pm.

Divided into two panels, the event will be live streamed on this page and on the newspaper’s YouTube channel.

The first panel will discuss the job market for professions related to mathematics—such as technology, finance, engineering, among others—in aspects like remuneration, stability, and formality. Innovation, technological development, and IT will also be discussed.

The panel will feature Edivaldo Constantino, Manager of the Employment and Opportunity Initiative for the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in Latin America, and Luiz Drouet, President of the Brazilian Association of Human Resources in São Paulo (ABRH-SP).

In addition to them, the debate will include representatives from the public sector: Pedro Rafael Lopes Fernandes, Manager of Macroeconomic Projections at the Mauro Borges Institute of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies in Goiás, and Tatiana Roque, Secretary of Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro and professor at the Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

The panel will be moderated by Marcelo Viana, Director-General of the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA).

The second panel will focus on the scenario of mathematics education, moderated by Patricia Mota Guedes, Superintendent of Itaú Social.

The invited speakers will be Ya Jen Chang, President of the Sidarta Institute, Jorge Lira, Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) and Coordinator of the Center for Excellence in Educational Policies at the institution, Karla Esquerre, Professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and leader of research on educational tools, and Alex Sandro Gomes, leader of the Cognitive Sciences and Educational Technology Research Group at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE).
